证书(ACC、PCC、MCC)是 ICF 对教练能力的认证,ICF 认证页称其为“a demonstration of professional competence”。
- 持有 ICF 证书只是成为个人会员的条件之一,完成或正在就读 60 小时合格培训同样可以入会;
- ICF 认证申请页对每条路径分列会员价与非会员价,例如 ACC Level 1 / Level 2 路径为会员 175 美元、非会员 325 美元;
- 认证申请页写明,会员申请证书可享受申请费折扣;
两者共同的一点:ICF 道德准则页写明,“Every ICF member and credential-holder makes a pledge to uphold the ICF Code of Ethics”。

What ICF Is as an Organisation: Membership Types, Membership versus Credentials, and Chapters
Who this is for: coaches and students who want to understand how ICF is organised, coaches considering ICF membership, and anyone unsure how an "ICF member" differs from an "ICF-credentialed coach".
What it covers: ICF's background and family organisations; individual and organisation membership (eligibility, fees, benefits); membership versus credentials; ICF chapters and how to join one; and the Hong Kong and Taiwan chapter pages on ICF's website. For credential levels and requirements, see our article 03.
Background
ICF is the International Coaching Federation. Its History page says it was founded in the United States in 1995 as the International Coach Federation and renamed the International Coaching Federation in 2020. The address in the site footer is in Lexington, Kentucky. Mission: "Advancing coaching standards, excellence, and impact worldwide."
Family organisations
ICF describes itself as an ecosystem of family organisations. The ICF Ecosystem page presents these: ICF Professional Coaches (the membership organisation for coaches), ICF Credentials and Standards (credentialing standards), ICF Coaching Education (accreditation of coach education), ICF Coaching in Organizations (coaching cultures in organisations) and ICF Foundation (social change through coaching). Each has its own board and operates as part of "One ICF"; the ICF Global Board provides strategic direction and coordinates the ecosystem. ICF Professional Coaches calls itself "the world's largest membership organization for professionally trained coaches."
Individual membership
ICF offers Individual Membership and Organization Membership. Individuals are eligible if they meet at least one of: holding an ICF credential (ACC, PCC or MCC); having completed at least 60 hours of coaching education that meets ICF standards; or being enrolled in at least 60 such hours. Accepted education includes ICF-accredited Level 1 and Level 2 programmes, CCE (all Core Competency hours, up to 12 hours from other areas) and non-accredited education teaching skills aligned with the Core Competencies. Non-coaching skills, personal development, and psychology or counselling education (unless taught as coaching from the Core Competencies perspective) do not count.
Membership is valid for 12 months and costs USD 270 a year, with optional automatic renewal. ICF does not give an effective date; this is the amount shown when we checked on 22 October 2026. ICF's current page is authoritative.
Member benefits
Member-exclusive benefits listed by ICF include discounts when earning and maintaining ACC, PCC and MCC credentials; member rates at ICF global events; local chapters and the ICF Engage online community; a peer coaching programme; ethics resources; a verifiable digital badge and brand resources; Communities of Practice where members can earn CCE credits; Member Resource Groups; a listing in the Find a Coach directory; and business resources and partner offers. ICF also lists complimentary resources available to members. Discount amounts are not stated on the benefits page.
Organization membership
For organisations that prioritise internal coaching development. It is not available to companies employing coaches primarily as consultants, trainers or educators serving external clients. An existing coaching programme is not required.
| Tier | Annual fee (USD) | Individual seats |
|---|---|---|
| Premier | 20,000 | 60 |
| Strategic | 12,500 | 30 |
| Emerging | 6,000 | 10 |
No effective date is given; amounts as shown on 22 October 2026, and ICF's current page is authoritative. The benefits table lists a Complimentary Accreditation Application and complimentary CCE accreditation ("up to 10 hours" for qualifying learning within the organisation); check ICF's table for which tiers include them.
Membership versus credentials
Membership is an annual, paid affiliation with ICF's membership organisation. A credential (ACC, PCC, MCC) is ICF's certification of coaching competence, which ICF calls "a demonstration of professional competence." A credential is one of three routes to individual membership. ICF's credential application page lists member and non-member fees for every path (for example, ACC Level 1 / Level 2: USD 175 member, USD 325 non-member), says members receive a discount on the application fee, and does not state that membership is required to apply. Our reading (Mingwen Coaching): a member does not necessarily hold an ICF credential, and a credential holder is not necessarily a member, so the two should be checked separately. ICF Professional Coaches board eligibility likewise lists them as separate requirements. Both are bound by the Code of Ethics: "Every ICF member and credential-holder makes a pledge to uphold the ICF Code of Ethics."
Chapters
ICF has "over 140 chapters in more than 90 countries and territories"; its History page says the first chapters were launched in 1996. Members choose a chapter on the membership application, or, if already members, affiliate with one by editing their member profile. ICF's chapter pages do not state chapter dues or the legal relationship between chapters and ICF.
Hong Kong and Taiwan chapter pages
When we checked, ICF's website had pages for the Hong Kong Chapter and the Taiwan Chapter. Neither page lists a city, chapter website or contact details. This article does not list other chapters; for the current list, use ICF's Find a Chapter map.
Not stated by ICF
- Effective dates for individual and organisation membership fees.
- Discount amounts for members (other than credential application fees, where both prices are listed).
- Whether chapters charge separate dues.
- The legal relationship between chapters and ICF.
